Managed IT

How managed IT pricing works, and what to ask before you sign

Most managed IT is priced per user or per device each month. What matters is what sits inside that price and what is billed on top.

Managed IT is usually a flat monthly fee, often per user or per device. The number matters less than what is inside it. Two quotes that look alike can cover very different amounts of work.

What a monthly fee should include

  • Helpdesk support for your staff, with a stated response time
  • Monitoring and patching of computers and servers
  • Security basics: MFA, endpoint protection, and email filtering
  • Onboarding and offboarding of staff
  • Vendor coordination, so you are not chasing your internet or software suppliers

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Is security included, or an add-on with its own price?
  • How are projects, like an office move or a migration, priced?
  • Who pays for hardware and licences, and who owns them if we leave?
  • What happens after hours, and what does an urgent call cost?
  • How long is the contract, and how do we get our documentation back if we go?

A low monthly price with a long list of extras is often more expensive than a clear price that covers the basics.
